Sustainable Energy Solutions Sweden Holding AB (SENS) has announced a strategic partnership with Finnish project management firm Dovre Group for a pioneering energy venture at the Pyhasalmi mine in Finland.
The joint initiative encompasses the establishment of an 85-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) alongside a 75-megawatt/530-megawatt-hour underground pumped storage hydro (UPHS) facility in Pyhajarvi. Additionally, plans are underway to explore the feasibility of solar parks within the vicinity.
Dovre Group has committed initial investment towards the BESS project through a stake in the dedicated entity formed for the Pyhasalmi site. Expressing further interest, the company aims to delve into the underground pumped hydro venture and potential solar locations.
Partners in this endeavor include SENS and municipally owned development company Callio, who inked a foundational agreement in May.
The influx of investment, with undisclosed terms, will bolster efforts to progress the BESS project to a ready-to-build (RTB) phase and advance the UPHS project towards a final investment decision (FID) anticipated later this year.
