UK-based offshore equipment and services provider, OEG Energy Group Limited, has announced a collaboration with Sojitz Machinery Corp (SOMAC) to extend services for offshore wind projects in Japan.
This partnership, established through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), will see OEG Renewables and SOMAC pooling their expertise to facilitate pre-construction, operations, and maintenance (O&M) as well as vessel services within Japan's burgeoning offshore wind sector.
OEG highlighted Japan's ambitious targets for offshore wind energy expansion, with plans to significantly increase its installed capacity in the coming years.
Japan currently boasts 259.5 MW of offshore wind power, with intentions to scale up to 3.5 GW by the near future, aiming for a substantial growth to 10 GW by 2030 and potentially reaching 35-40 GW by 2040, which includes floating wind installations.
This collaborative effort between OEGR and SOMAC aims to capitalize on this expanding market, leveraging OEGR's experience in offshore energy solutions alongside SOMAC's local capabilities and resources to support Japan's renewable energy ambitions.
