According to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on June 6, U.S. wood pellet exports witnessed a slight decrease in April compared to the previous month, but remained higher than figures recorded in April of the previous year.
In April, the U.S. exported 819,341.5 metric tons of wood pellets, down from 938,662.3 metric tons in March but up from 720,209.2 metric tons in April 2023.
The U.S. distributed wood pellets to approximately 16 countries during April, with the United Kingdom emerging as the top destination, receiving 500,136.1 metric tons. This was followed by Japan with 180,621 metric tons, France with 62,371.9 metric tons, the Netherlands with 32,400.9 metric tons, and Belgium-Luxembourg with 24,717.8 metric tons.
The value of U.S. wood pellet exports in April amounted to $157.26 million, reflecting a decrease from $174.33 million in March but an increase from $129.17 million in April 2023.
For the first four months of 2024, total U.S. wood pellet exports reached nearly 3.2 million metric tons, valued at $607.29 million. This compares to 2.9 million metric tons exported during the same period last year, valued at $531.25 million.
