Taihan has announced the successful completion of the first phase of its Submarine Cable Plant 1, dedicated to serving the offshore wind industry.
Situated behind Godae Pier at Pyeongtaek's Dangjin Port, the facility spans approximately 44,800 square meters and is being developed in two phases.
The initial phase, focused on producing inter-array cables, was finalized and approved in May of this year. Following extensive testing and prototype production, the plant is set to commence full-scale operations, starting with the production of inter-array cables for the Yeonggwang Nakwol offshore wind power project.
Vice Chairman Song Jong-min expressed optimism about the company's capacity to meet the growing demand for submarine cables, stating, “With the completion of the Step 1 facilities of our submarine cable plant 1, we now have the capacity to satisfy the rapidly increasing annual demand for submarine cables.”
Taihan recently secured a significant contract worth approximately KRW100 billion (€0.06 billion) to supply inter-array cables for the Yeonggwang Nakwol project, positioning the company as a key player in the global submarine cable industry.
Furthermore, Taihan has bolstered its capabilities with the acquisition of a cable laying vessel, enhancing its installation capabilities and solidifying its position as a game changer in the industry.
The construction of the second phase of Submarine Cable Plant 1, focusing on the production of export cables, is currently underway and expected to be completed by the first half of 2025. Additionally, plans for the second submarine cable plant, featuring facilities for the production of export and HVDC cables, are in the final stages of review for site selection.
