Tim Fischer, the executive director of global wind at Ramboll, has been elected to join the inaugural steering group of the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA). The GOWA, a consortium encompassing 14 countries and the private sector, aims to achieve 380GW of offshore wind power by 2030 and 2000GW by 2050, in alignment with the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement.
In a statement, Fischer highlighted the challenges facing the offshore wind industry, describing it as a “trilemma” that necessitates balancing the interests of investors, developers, suppliers, and the public. He emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into offshore wind auction schemes to stimulate innovation, foster a diverse and equitable competitive landscape, and accelerate industry growth.
The steering group, comprising industry leaders, is tasked with establishing strategic priorities, overseeing progress, and supporting the initiatives and objectives outlined by the GOWA's secretariat.
