RWE has initiated the construction of a 53MW wind farm in the Apulia region of south-east Italy.
During the construction phase, an average of 150 RWE staff and experts from external service providers will be engaged in the project.
The wind farm, named Mondonuovo, will feature nine turbines, each with a capacity of 5.9MW, and is scheduled to be operational by 2025.
Katja Wünschel, Chief Executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, stated, “We are constructing two significant onshore wind farms with 21 new generation turbines in Italy, a key market for us.”
“After completion, Mondonuovo and San Severo will have the capacity to provide green electricity to approximately 110,000 homes annually.”
“These projects will contribute to RWE's ambitious climate target of achieving Net Zero by 2040 and will support Italy's 2030 goals for energy transition and security.”
The initial phase of construction will involve adjusting access roads to the site and constructing crane erection areas. Subsequently, the team will pour foundations measuring 20 meters in height and erect towers.
RWE will utilize special blade lifter technology for transporting rotor blades, enabling maneuverability through tight bends and alleyways.
This technology has been previously employed by RWE during the construction of the Selinus wind farm to minimize tree felling.
