Fortum has announced the integration of 250 employees into its hydropower operations and maintenance team across Sweden and Finland.
Around a decade ago, Fortum had opted to outsource its hydropower maintenance workforce. However, in 2023, after a thorough review, the company decided to bring back these employees into the organization. This move aims to potentially enhance efficiency and foster a stronger sense of ownership and community within the hydropower business.
The integration of these 250 new positions represents a step towards more efficient and quality-driven operations for Fortum, consolidating its position in the hydropower industry.
Katarina Atteryd Eckerwall, Head of Fortum's hydropower facilities, commented on the integration, stating, “Operation and maintenance are critical parts of our core business. By integrating our hydropower facilities and staff within the same organization, we aim to create a more cohesive and efficient working environment.”
Fortum also intends to bolster its market presence by actively recruiting local labor, highlighting its commitment to the communities where it operates.
Eckerwall added, “At Fortum, we value the local connection and aim to deepen our engagement with the communities around our hydropower facilities. By integrating local labor, we seek to strengthen not only our company but also the communities where we operate.”
The integration of these 250 new positions marks a significant development for Fortum as it seeks to enhance efficiency and community engagement within its hydropower operations.
