German energy group Uniper SE has announced the signing of a share purchase agreement with Warsaw-listed renewables firm Photon Energy NV (WSE:PEN) for the acquisition of a 20.4-MW solar photovoltaic project in Poland.
The acquisition is contingent upon the project achieving ready-to-build status, which is anticipated to occur by the end of 2024. Situated in the municipality of Szepietewo in northeastern Poland, the solar development represents a strategic move for Uniper as it seeks to reshape its generation profile and expand its presence in the solar and wind power segments.
Uniper has outlined ambitious targets to develop renewable energy projects, aiming to bring 10 GW of onshore wind and solar projects across Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Sweden, Hungary, and Poland to ready-to-build status by 2030. As an interim objective, the company aims to achieve investment maturity for 3 GW of renewables by 2025.
Pawel Tarczewski, Head of Solar & Wind Development Poland at Uniper Renewables, commented on the acquisition, stating, “Our project pipeline in Poland is growing. Our goal is to reach a project pipeline of around one gigawatt (GW) in Poland in the medium to long term.”
