A consortium spearheaded by Masdar has finalized a Land Access Agreement with the Egyptian government for the development of a monumental 10-gigawatt (GW) wind farm in . This ambitious project, set to be one of the largest in the world, is valued at over US$10 billion and is poised to reshape Egypt's energy landscape.

In addition to Masdar, the consortium includes African renewable developer Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities, a sustainable infrastructure development and investment platform. The agreement grants the consortium access to a vast 3025 square kilometre area of land located in West Suhag, enabling them to conduct essential development studies to advance the project.

Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, expressed enthusiasm for the project's potential impact, stating, “We are excited to be moving to the next step of the development of our 10GW wind farm in Egypt and cannot wait to see it progress.”

The comprehensive development studies will encompass resource measurement campaigns, geotechnical and topographic surveys, and environmental assessments to ensure minimal environmental impact. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to produce an impressive 47,790 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy annually, significantly reducing Egypt's carbon emissions by displacing 23.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

The project aligns with Egypt's strategic objective of sourcing 42% of its energy from renewables by 2030 and is projected to save the country an estimated US$5 billion in costs annually.

, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, hailed the project as a milestone in Egypt's journey, stating, “At 10GW, this landmark project is pushing the limits of innovation and scale as we work to help unlock Africa's clean energy potential.”

Amr Allam, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Hassan Allam Holding, emphasized the consortium's commitment to sustainability, stating, “This initiative underscores our commitment to clean energy and environmental responsibility.”

The development of the 10GW wind farm is expected to deliver significant economic benefits to local communities, including job creation and community support initiatives. Mohamed Asaad Taher, Senior Manager for Business Development and Investment at Masdar, highlighted the transformative impact of the project, stating, “This source of clean, affordable energy will save Egypt money, reduce emissions and power industry across the country.”
