Green Energy Park and Eletrobras Forge Partnership to Boost Renewable Hydrogen Production in Brazil

Green Energy Park (GEP) and , a leading power utility and transmission company in Latin America, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pursue cost and technology leadership in the production of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives in Brazil, marking one of the largest climate impact initiatives globally.

Brazil's abundant natural resources make it an ideal location for renewable hydrogen production, and the collaboration between GEP and Eletrobras leverages the country's potential of over 10 Gigawatts. The partnership aims to combine Eletrobras' hydropower electricity resources with GEP's advanced hydrogen production platform to achieve cost-effective and sustainable hydrogen production.

To achieve cost leadership in renewable hydrogen, the collaboration plans to utilize base-load power to deploy state-of-the-art electrolyzer technologies. This will be complemented by a standardized production and purpose-built export terminal facilities. GEP's expertise in cryogenic gas handling and storage, along with its industrial construction capabilities, will further enhance the efficiency and reliability of the integrated hydrogen production platform.

As a vertically integrated company, GEP intends to distribute green fuels to industry and transportation sectors to support the decarbonization efforts in Brazil.

Bart Biebuyck, CEO of Green Energy Park, expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, “We are incredibly proud to announce this significant milestone in our journey to build a strong coalition for achieving our climate goals.”

Ivan de Souza Monteiro, CEO of Eletrobras, emphasized the company's commitment to promoting energy transition and sustainability, saying, “We, at Eletrobras, are working to offer innovative solutions for the electricity sector as a way of promoting the energy transition process, always aiming for a more sustainable future.”
