French startup has taken a significant stride in advancing by submitting an application for a pioneering project: the construction of a 5-GW factory dedicated to manufacturing photovoltaic (PV) cells and panels in France's Grand Est region.

In a recent announcement posted on LinkedIn, the company disclosed its intention to pursue environmental authorization for its flagship endeavor.

The proposed EUR 700 million (USD 754.8 million) manufacturing facility is slated to be erected in the town of Hambach, located in the Moselle prefecture. Once operational, it will boast the capacity to churn out an impressive 10 million panels annually. With an estimated workforce of 1,700 individuals, the facility aims to commence initial production by 2025, with plans to achieve full capacity two years thereafter.

Anticipated to commence construction in the second quarter, the production hub is poised to become the largest of its kind in the northeastern French region. It is strategically positioned to cater to both domestic demand and export markets across Europe.

Highlighting the project's financial backing, HoloSolis secured EUR 3 million in grant funding from the Grand Est region in March, in addition to previous investments from coating solutions provider Armor Group and Germany's Holding GmbH.
