Haizea Wind Group, a manufacturer of offshore wind energy, has announced that it has placed an order with Pemamek, a Finnish welding and production automation provider, for the delivery of automation machinery for XXXL monopiles. The machinery will be used in Haizea's facility in the Port of Bilbao, Spain.
The PEMA production systems that Pemamek will deliver are specifically designed for thick, heavy structures over 8-meter diameter. With these machines, Haizea will be able to manufacture XXXL monopiles with diameters of up to 15 metres. The range of production systems included in the order will enhance the manufacture of extremely large offshore wind monopile foundations, with PEMA automation technology streamlining and improving Haizea's overall manufacturing efficiency.
Jos Buijks, Managing Director of the Haizea Bilbao Monopile Plant, expressed excitement about the new production technology and the future of Haizea's growth. “The offshore wind energy industry is growing and the future for Haizea looks very good,” he said. “This investment represents a significant milestone in our growth strategy and will enable us to better serve our customers and expand our reach in the offshore wind energy market.”
Pemamek has already begun delivering the equipment and is scheduled to complete the delivery at the end of 2023, with the systems ready for full production in early 2024. The delivery comes after Haizea recently signed major contracts with Iberdrola and Ørsted, two of the biggest players in the offshore wind energy market. The company will expand its Bilbao site to have a surface area of more than 200,000 square metres and will add a further 350 jobs at the site, building on its current facility of 48,800 square metres and 500 employees.
The growing demand for renewable energy sources has spurred the development of the offshore wind energy market, and Haizea's investment in new production technology shows the company's commitment to meeting the needs of this expanding industry. With its state-of-the-art machinery and expanded facility, Haizea is well-positioned to continue to be a major player in the offshore wind energy market for years to come.
