Genia Bioenergy, a player in sustainable energy solutions, has unveiled plans for a substantial investment in a new biomethane plant in the province of Salamanca, situated in the town of Machacón, Spain. This initiative, set to receive around €25 million in funding, aims to revolutionize the management of livestock waste while bolstering renewable energy production.
The proposed plant is slated to enable local livestock farmers to sustainably handle up to 150,000 tonnes of manure and slurry annually, a move indicative of Genia Bioenergy's commitment to harnessing renewable resources and promoting environmental sustainability.
Key stakeholders, including Genia Bioenergy CEO Gabriel Butler, Machacón Mayoress Eva María Picado, and Ángel José Martín, director of Tecnia, attended the announcement ceremony. Their presence underscored the collective effort to drive positive change in the region's energy landscape.
The event attracted numerous stakeholders, including representatives from the Junta de Castilla y León, Provincial Council President Francisco Javier Iglesias, and mayors from neighboring towns, highlighting the widespread interest and support for the project.
Upon completion, the Machacón facility is expected to produce an estimated 70 GWh/year of biomethane, which will be integrated into the distribution network. Genia Bioenergy predicts that this renewable gas could potentially supply up to 8% of the businesses and homes in the province of Salamanca, marking a significant stride towards enhancing energy sustainability in the region.
