NKT, a provider of power cable solutions, has successfully concluded a comprehensive inspection and remediation operation on the East West interconnector, the vital link connecting Ireland and Great Britain. The meticulous endeavor, conducted in collaboration with EirGrid Interconnector Designated Activity Company (EIDAC), ensures the optimal performance and reliability of the interconnector.
Rodney Doyle, Chief Operations Officer of EirGrid, underscored the significance of the partnership, stating, “EirGrid has a long-standing partnership with NKT as we work together to secure the condition of the East West Interconnector.”
The recent inspection revealed areas requiring remediation to uphold the interconnector's integrity. EIDAC, recognizing the criticality of maintaining peak operational conditions, swiftly addressed the identified issues in coordination with NKT.
Doyle elaborated on the remediation efforts, stating, “The recent survey showed the necessity of remediation work on sections of the cable. These works are now complete ensuring the continuity of supply between Ireland and Great Britain.”
NKT's expertise in cable inspection and remediation proved instrumental in restoring the interconnector to optimal condition. Axel Barnekow Widmark, Executive Vice President of Service at NKT, expressed satisfaction with the project's successful completion, stating, “We are pleased to announce that both the inspection survey and remediation work following the survey are now successfully completed.”
The remediation efforts, facilitated by NKT's specialized vessel, NKT Victoria, exemplify the efficacy of the collaboration between NKT and EIDAC. Widmark highlighted the enduring partnership between the two entities, emphasizing their shared commitment to enhancing the performance of the interconnector.
