Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is set to inaugurate its 85MW Solano 4 Wind Project in Rio Vista, California, a significant addition to its renewable energy infrastructure.
The project, comprising 19 units, plays a key role in SMUD's broader strategy to achieve its 2030 Zero Carbon Plan, aimed at reducing carbon emissions from its power supply.
SMUD's CEO and General Manager, Paul Lau, highlighted the project's importance, stating, “These turbines are pivotal in our journey toward a carbon-free power supply by 2030.”
Lau also emphasized SMUD's commitment to environmental stewardship and affordable energy for its communities. “That is our promise – a future where sustainability and innovation continue to drive us forward, while keeping our rates among the lowest in California,” he added.
The Solano 4 Wind Project replaces older turbines with advanced Vestas V150 turbines, increasing its capacity to 85.5MW and providing clean, renewable energy for thousands of homes.
With the addition of Solano 4, the combined Solano Wind Project's capacity reaches 300MW, contributing to a significant increase in annual energy generation. This underscores SMUD's dedication to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and reducing its carbon footprint.
