Energy Vault and ACEN Australia Forge Landmark Agreement for Battery Energy Storage Systems in Australia

Holdings and have inked a transformative deal for the deployment of two battery system (BESS) projects totaling a staggering 200MW in Australia, heralding a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions in the region.

Scheduled to kick off construction in the latter half of 2024, with commercial operations slated for 2025 and 2026, these ventures signify a concerted effort towards bolstering Australia's infrastructure.

Under the imminent agreement, Energy Vault is poised to roll out a 50MW/100MWh BESS alongside a formidable 150MW/300MWh BESS at ACEN Australia's expansive 720MW New England Solar facility. This solar project stands as one of the largest participants in Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM), positioning itself as a linchpin in the country's renewable energy landscape.

The BESS installations are strategically designed to cater to the region's peak energy demands, offering a dynamic solution to offset reliance on traditional coal-fired power generation. Leveraging the NSW Government's Emerging Energy Program, the New England BESS project underscores ACEN's commitment to fostering sustainable energy initiatives, with a robust pipeline of over 1GW of projects actively in development across Australia.

Robert Piconi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Energy Vault, emphasized the pivotal role of these initiatives in bolstering regional energy resilience, stating, “ACEN Australia's New England Solar is a critical source of renewable energy for the NSW region, and we are proud to play a role in ensuring its ability to reliably provide the region with clean power in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.”

David Pollington, Managing Director of ACEN Australia, underscored the value of Energy Vault's collaboration in optimizing battery storage systems for maximum efficiency and impact. “Energy Vault's ability to work with our S120 converters will be particularly valuable as we optimize our battery storage systems for maximum efficiency and impact,” Pollington affirmed.

The BESS deployments, crafted under Energy Vault's B-VAULT integrated battery energy storage solutions, will be complemented by Siemens S120 inverters, facilitating grid support functionalities crucial for ensuring stability and reliability in energy distribution.

With these groundbreaking agreements, Energy Vault and ACEN Australia are poised to catalyze a paradigm shift towards a greener, more sustainable energy future for Australia, setting a precedent for collaborative innovation in the realm of renewable energy deployment.
