Boralex has secured the prestigious 125MW Oxford Battery Energy Storage project. The selection by Ontario's Independent Electricity Systems Operator (IESO) marks a pivotal moment for Boralex, reaffirming its stronghold in the realm of battery storage technology.
Hugues Girardin, Boralex's Executive Vice President and General Manager for North America, expressed pride in the company's achievement, stating, “With the selection of Oxford, Boralex consolidates its position as a leading developer in the battery storage technology in Ontario and across Canada.”
The Oxford Battery Energy Storage Project, boasting a capacity of 125MW with a four-hour duration, is strategically located in the township of south-west Oxford, Ontario. This venture adds to Boralex's existing battery energy storage portfolio, which includes the notable 300MW Hagersville and 80MW Tilbury developments, both previously selected by the IESO.
“This is major news for Boralex, its shareholders and all its stakeholders,” remarked Boralex's President and Chief Executive, Patrick Decostre. “The Oxford project will create long-term value while contributing to the resilience of Ontario's power grid.”
Underlining Boralex's commitment to fostering partnerships with local indigenous communities, the company has entered into a 50% partnership with the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) for the Oxford site. Matt Jamieson, President and Chief Executive of SNGRDC, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing its significance in driving innovative energy solutions with indigenous involvement.
“It is promising to see industry leaders recognize the value and importance of Indigenous involvement in creative innovative energy solutions,” stated Jamieson. “We remain committed to creating a sustainable, equitable future for our own community and for generations to come.”
