James Fisher & Sons Awarded Contract for Maintenance of Morlais Tidal Energy Substations in Wales

James Fisher & Sons, a leading provider of marine and engineering services, has secured a significant contract for the management, repair, and maintenance of high voltage equipment and cables at two of Menter Môn's Morlais substations in Anglesey, .

The Morlais project, situated off the coast of Anglesey, represents a pioneering effort in tidal stream energy, boasting the distinction of being 's first and largest consented plug-and-play tidal energy scheme. With the potential to generate up to 240MW of energy, equivalent to powering 180,000 households, Morlais underscores Wales' commitment to initiatives.

Chris Rawnsley, Head of Operations and Asset Management at James Fisher, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Tidal energy can provide a continuous generation of energy, so it is imperative that we ensure the assets are reliable.”

Rawnsley emphasized James Fisher's dedication to delivering bespoke solutions for innovative projects like Morlais, highlighting the company's commitment to leveraging its expertise in the renewable energy sector.

Gareth Roberts, Operations Lead at Menter Môn Morlais, echoed Rawnsley's sentiments, expressing confidence in James Fisher's track record and its ability to maintain the high standards expected for the project.

“As we move to the next phase in our development, James Fisher will become an important partner,” stated Roberts, underscoring the pivotal role of collaboration in advancing Wales' renewable energy agenda.

The Morlais project, supported by various entities including the European Regional Development Fund, the Welsh Government, the Isle of Anglesey County Council, the NDA, and the North Wales Growth Deal, symbolizes a concerted effort to harness sustainable energy sources while preserving the natural environment.
