Vard has enlisted TMC Compressors (TMC) to furnish a comprehensive marine compressed air system for a cutting-edge cable laying vessel commissioned by Prysmian.
In this venture, TMC will supply a marine compressed air system, encompassing control and service air compressors, tailored to the vessel's specifications. The equipment will be crafted in the Nordic region by Norway-based TMC and dispatched to one of Vard's shipyards in Norway.
Hans Petter Tanum, Director of Sales and Business Development at TMC, underscored the environmental consciousness driving the project, stating: “This modern cable laying vessel will have a number of innovative features to enable sustainable subsea operations.”
Tanum highlighted TMC's commitment to efficiency and environmental stewardship, noting, “Our compressors have been designed to keep energy consumption, emissions to air and operating costs to a minimum.”
This collaboration marks the third cable laying vessel Prysmian has entrusted to Vard, following the ongoing construction of the Monna Lisa and the delivery of the first vessel, Leonardo da Vinci, in 2021.
Vard's decision to engage TMC spans all three vessels, affirming a partnership grounded in reliability and quality.
The new cable laying vessel, fashioned according to the Vard 9 18 design, is tailored for intricate subsea operations. Boasting dimensions of approximately 185 meters in length and 34 meters in breadth, the vessel will feature advanced cable installation solutions, including three carousels with a total capacity of 19,000 tonnes.
Designed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway, the vessel's hull will take shape at Vard Shipyards Romania in Tulcea, with final outfitting, commissioning, and delivery slated for one of Vard's shipyards in Norway.
