Energix North America has launched a groundbreaking 70-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic (PV) park, dubbed the Adams Solar park. This initiative not only aids Pennsylvania's largest city in its pursuit of carbon-neutral municipal operations but also represents a significant stride in renewable energy adoption within the region.
The Adams Solar park operates under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) between Energix and the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA). This agreement, touted as one of the largest municipal solar power offtake deals in the United States, ensures a competitive fixed rate for the supplied energy, aligning with conventional electricity prices.
Located in Straban Township near Gettysburg, the PV park sprawls across a 700-acre site adorned with 230,000 solar panels. It is anticipated to yield approximately 150,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy annually, significantly bolstering the city's renewable power supply.
Philadelphia aims to power all municipal facilities with 100% renewable energy by 2030, with its current energy portfolio already comprising nearly 30% renewable electricity sources. Looking ahead, the city harbors ambitions of achieving city-wide carbon neutrality by 2050, with endeavors like the Adams Solar park playing a crucial role in realizing this long-term vision.
