French construction giant Saint-Gobain has solidified its commitment to sustainability with a groundbreaking five-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in Romania, partnering with energy stalwart OMV Petrom.
Under the terms of the agreement, commencing in January 2026, Saint-Gobain will procure approximately 800GWh of green electricity sourced from wind and solar installations operated by OMV Petrom. This landmark deal marks a significant step towards Saint-Gobain's ambition of curbing its carbon footprint in Romania, aligning with the company's overarching objective of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“This contract, combined with a solar park currently in the final stage of development at the Călărași glass plant, will cover 100% of Saint-Gobain's electricity needs in Romania,” affirmed a spokesperson from Saint-Gobain.
With 14 industrial sites sprawled across the country, Saint-Gobain Romania's operations encompass a spectrum of activities ranging from glass production to insulation, plasterboard, and construction chemicals. This strategic collaboration underscores Saint-Gobain's unwavering commitment to sustainable energy practices while fortifying its operational resilience in Romania.
