AMAG Austria Metall AG has sealed a significant deal to bolster its decarbonization ambitions, announcing a long-term agreement to procure wind power for its headquarters in Ranshofen, Upper Austria. The move underscores the company's steadfast commitment to sustainability and marks a milestone in its green energy journey.
In a strategic partnership with Vienna-based renewable energy producer ImWind Erneuerbare Energie GmbH, AMAG has committed to a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that will see the procurement of 18 megawatts of wind power. This bold step aligns with AMAG's vision to substantially reduce its carbon footprint and contribute meaningfully to climate protection efforts.
Highlighting the significance of the partnership, Helmut Kaufmann, CEO of AMAG, stated, “This partnership underscores our commitment to a green future and demonstrates that we are determined to make a significant contribution to climate protection.”
The electricity sourced through the PPA will cover approximately 20% of the current annual electricity demand of AMAG's headquarters, where green power has been utilized since 2018. The agreement marks a proactive move by AMAG to meet the increasing electricity demands anticipated in the near future.
ImWind Erneuerbare Energie GmbH will supply the electricity generated from three new wind turbines, slated for commissioning by the end of 2024. This collaboration not only solidifies AMAG's position as a leader in sustainable practices within the aluminum production industry but also serves as a testament to the company's unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship.
