Danish companies NIRAS and Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) have embarked on a transformative journey to ignite the growth of offshore wind farms in the Philippines. COP has entrusted NIRAS with the crucial task of conducting local environmental impact assessments (EIA) and environmental social impact assessments (ESIAs) for the prospective offshore wind farm sites. Spearheading the development and construction endeavors on behalf of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), COP aims to revolutionize the renewable energy landscape in the archipelago.
The kick-off meeting witnessed the presence of the Danish Ambassador to the Philippines, Franz-Michael Mellbin, who underscored the significance of this collaboration. Ambassador Mellbin remarked, “Both NIRAS and CIP/COP are veterans in the wind and offshore wind sectors. In many ways, [they are also] all pioneers of a new energy future for the Philippines.”
He further emphasized the profound impact this venture could have on the energy independence of the Philippines, stating, “In the future, the Philippines can become much more energy-independent, and this is a huge step forward for any nation.”
