Suzlon secures 39MW turbine order for First Energy project in India

Indian wind turbine manufacturer has secured a 39MW turbine order for an unnamed project being developed by First Energy, a Thermax Group company. The project will be located at Thalaikattupuram, Tuticorin in and is expected to be commissioned in 2024. As part of the agreement, Suzlon will deliver 13 3MW units featuring Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers and will supervise the project including erection and commissioning. The company will also provide comprehensive operations and maintenance services post-commissioning.

This order is part of a 100MW wind-solar hybrid project by First Energy. Suzlon boss JP Chalasani said, “We are delighted to announce our order with First Energy 5 Private Limited, part of the highly respected Thermax Group…This is our first order with the group and features our 3MW series product, which is one of the largest wind turbines in today. We believe this series will play a crucial role in fulfilling India's goals.”

Chalasani further added, “First Energy is dedicated to providing green energy to MSMEs and medium to high power consuming industries in the country, which aligns with our vision of a sustainable India. We thank them for their trust in Suzlon's technology and services and look forward to building a strong and self-reliant India together.”

India has set a target of achieving 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022 and the order by First Energy for Suzlon's turbines is a significant step in achieving that goal. Wind power is one of the most important sources of renewable energy in India and this order highlights Suzlon's commitment to provide the country with sustainable energy solutions.

With this order, Suzlon is expected to consolidate its position in the Indian market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.7% during 2021-2026 according to a recent report by Mordor Intelligence. The report also suggests that the Indian government's commitment to increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix will further drive the growth of the wind energy market in India.
