Uniper, a player in renewable energy, has received official confirmation from the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) regarding the success of its ambitious 19MW solar venture, the Voslapper Groden project.
Situated on an ash landfill site adjacent to the former coal-fired power plant in Wilhelmshaven, Lower Saxony, the planned solar facility marks a significant stride towards sustainable energy production.
Jorg Lennertz, CEO of Uniper Renewables, expressed gratitude towards the German Renewable Energy Law (EEG), acknowledging its pivotal role in fostering a conducive environment for renewable energy initiatives. Lennertz emphasized the collaborative effort between local authorities and the community, highlighting its indispensable contribution to the project's realization.
“This project marks one step of many more to come to bring our multiple GW of onshore wind and solar PV projects across Europe, often with co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) to life,” stated Lennertz, underscoring Uniper's commitment to driving the energy transition forward.
The Voslapper Groden endeavor entails the deployment of over 30,000 solar modules across a sprawling 14-hectare expanse. Furthermore, adhering to the development blueprint devised by the city of Wilhelmshaven, the project incorporates external compensation measures. Specifically, 18 hectares of intensive grassland and fallow land will undergo ecological refurbishment and enhancement, in alignment with sustainability objectives.
