ENERCON, a German wind turbine manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Enerjisa Üretim, a Turkish energy generation company. The agreement stipulates that ENERCON will supply and install two prototypes of its latest and most powerful E-175 EP5 wind energy converters in Turkey by the end of 2024. The turbines feature a rotor diameter of 175 meters and a nominal power of 6 MW, making them the largest and most powerful in ENERCON's product portfolio.
Dr. Jürgen Zeschky, ENERCON's CEO, expressed his satisfaction with the continuation of the company's cooperation with Enerjisa Üretim, as it had previously supplied turbines for the YEKA RES 2 project. The project aims to install 1000 MW of onshore power in Turkey in the next three years. The delivery of the E-175 EP5 turbines marks the start of the next phase of the partnership.
Ulrich Schulze Südhoff, ENERCON's CCO, stated that the two companies share a commitment to renewable energies and the energy transition, making their collaboration a decisive contribution to a sustainable, reliable, and cost-effective energy supply in Turkey. He also added that the new E-175 EP5 turbines are very suitable for locations in the country and that ENERCON will make every effort to make the high-performance wind turbine type available for serial projects, continuing to drive onshore expansion in Turkey.
ENERCON has been present in Turkey for over 25 years, and its long-standing relationship with the country was highlighted by Arif Günyar, the Regional Head of ENERCON's Central Asia, Middle East, and Africa region. Together with its customers, ENERCON has contributed to building a renewable energy system in Turkey, achieving over 2.5 GW of onshore power, not including the 1000 MW from the current YEKA projects.
Enerjisa Üretim's CEO, Ihsan Erbil Bayçöl, stressed the need for Turkey to increase its investments in renewable energy to achieve its economic and environmental goals. He added that Enerjisa Üretim remains committed to assuming responsibility and providing support for the growth of the industry, and the collaboration with ENERCON aims to contribute to sustainable development of both technology and human resources in the industry.
As part of the agreement, Enerjisa Üretim will host the new E-175 EP5 turbines for testing and contribute to the technology's development. Testing of the turbines at Enerjisa Üretim's power plants in Turkey is crucial to the company and the country's renewable energy goals. The MoU covers the supply, installation, operation, and service of the two prototypes, which will be installed at the Enerjisa Üretim Balikesir Wind Power Plant and Enerjisa Üretim Bandirma Energy Base sites.
The collaboration between ENERCON and Enerjisa Üretim represents a significant step towards Turkey's energy transition and achieving its economic and environmental goals. The new E-175 EP5 turbines are a testament to ENERCON's commitment to innovation and sustainability, and their availability in Turkey marks the beginning of a new chapter in the partnership between the two companies.
