China's Envision Energy has been contracted by Hero Future Energies to deliver wind turbine generators for 588 MW of the Indian independent power producer's projects in its home country.
The deal was signed as part of a framework agreement that covers the supply of wind turbines and cooperation in other technologies such as battery energy storage and green hydrogen, Envision said on Monday.
Under the turbine supply arrangement, the Chinese manufacturer will ship 178 units of its EN 156-3.3 MW machines. Once in operation, the hardware is expected to generate around 2,200 GWh of electricity annually.
According to Envision, the partnership with Hero Future Energies will have a pivotal role in ramping up renewable energy capacity in India, which it considers a strategic market. The turbine maker has a 3-GW nacelle assembly hub in Pune, Maharashtra, and a 2.5-GW blade factory in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. It has so far brought online over 690 MW of its machines in India, while its order backlog stands at 7.4 GW.
“Long-term agreements such as this help us mitigate unpredictable supply chain disruptions while ensuring price stability,” said Srivatsan Iyer, global CEO of Hero Future Energies.
