Germany's latest ground-mounted solar project tender has seen overwhelming demand, far surpassing the 2234MW capacity initially tendered for by the deadline of March 1, 2024.
The tender, driven by statutory expansion targets, witnessed a notable increase in volume from 1.6GW to 2.2GW compared to previous rounds.
With nearly 570 bids submitted, totaling 4.1GW in volume, the competition was fierce. Ultimately, 326 bids with a volume of 2.2GW were accepted, highlighting the robust interest in solar development across the country.
Bavaria led the charge with the largest volume of awards, accounting for 806MW across 156 projects. This was followed by Schleswig-Holstein with 221MW and Lower Saxony with 199MW.
Notably, a significant portion of awards went to projects planned on verges along motorways or railways, totaling 141 awards with a combined capacity of 1058MW. Additionally, projects on arable land or grassland in less-favored areas secured 127 awards with 792MW.
Federal Network Agency president Klaus Müller remarked, “The tender continues to be characterized by a very high level of participation.” He added, “Despite the increase in tender volumes, there is stable competition in this segment.”
The strike prices ranged from €0.36/MWh to €0.55/MWh, with an average volume-weighted award value of €0.51/MWh, similar to previous rounds, according to the agency.
