Argentine power producer YPF Luz has commenced the construction of a 63-MW wind farm in Buenos Aires province, in collaboration with cement and concrete manufacturer Cementos Avellaneda, as announced by both companies via their social media platforms.
Dubbed the Cementos Avellaneda wind farm, the project will feature nine turbines spanning an expansive area of 450 hectares in proximity to the city of Olavarria. A notable portion of the wind farm's energy output will be directed to power Cementos Avellaneda's factory located within the city.
With a commitment to bolstering sustainable energy infrastructure, YPF Luz is poised to inject over USD 80 million (EUR 74.8 million) into the development of this venture. According to insights from Buenos Aires-based newspaper El Cronista, the power company intends to finance the project through a bond issuance.
El Cronista further reports that out of the wind farm's total capacity, 28 MW will be designated for Cementos Avellaneda's self-consumption needs, while the remaining 35 MW will be made available for commercialization on Argentina's MATER marketplace catering to large electricity consumers.
Anticipated to come online in the first half of 2025, the Cementos Avellaneda wind farm represents a pivotal step in Argentina's renewable energy transition
