Geothermal energy supplier Innargi has contracted AGR, a leading technical consultancy firm, for the drilling of three geothermal appraisal wells in Aarhus, Denmark. Innargi, backed by prominent entities including AP Moller Holding, ATP, NRGi, and Sampension, is dedicated to advancing clean and reliable district heating solutions across Europe through the utilization of geothermal energy resources.
Under the agreement, AGR will leverage its expertise in geology and drilling supervision to support the Aarhus Project. Lene Thorstensen, Operations Manager at AGR, highlighted the company's extensive experience in managing drilling operations, particularly in the North Sea region, stating, “Our team has a track record of managing drilling of more than 200 wells in the North Sea.”
Thorsten further emphasized the significance of the Aarhus project as a testament to the transfer of valuable competence from traditional oil and gas industries to renewable energy sectors.
The ambitious Aarhus geothermal plant, slated to become the EU's largest geothermal district heating system, is poised to make significant strides in sustainable energy provision. With a 6000-horsepower drilling rig deployed to penetrate depths of 2.5 kilometers to extract hot water, the project is on track to commence heat delivery in 2025.
Upon completion of all sub-plants, the system aims to contribute 20% of Aarhus's district heating needs, marking a substantial step towards decarbonization and sustainable energy utilization in the region.
