Morocco has launched a pre-qualification round in a tender aimed at the establishment and operation of a 400-MW wind farm complex situated in the northern region of the North African nation.
The announcement for the Nassim Nord project came on Friday from the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen), with bids expected to be submitted by June 24. The objective of the competition is to identify a private entity to undertake the financing, construction, and management of two wind farms.
The Nassim Nord complex will comprise the 150-MW Koudia Al Baida wind project, located in the northern provinces of Fahs Anjra and M'diq-Fnideq, and the 250-MW Nassim Dar Chaoui, slated for development in the Tangier and Tetouan provinces.
This initiative aligns with Morocco's strategic aim to increase the share of renewable energy sources in its electricity generation mix to at least 52% by the close of the decade. Notably, among the nation's flagship endeavors supporting this target is the expansive Noor Midelt project, set to integrate solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies in phased installation.
