Van Oord celebrated a milestone as it christened three cutting-edge vessels at its head office jetty in Rotterdam. Among them was the unveiling of the VO:X Barentsz, an unmanned survey vessel poised to revolutionize offshore operations.
In a ceremony presided over by Lucienne van Leeuwen-Koper, the VO:X Barentsz was officially named alongside two hybrid water injection dredgers, Rijn and Rhône. This unveiling marks a significant advancement in Van Oord's commitment to innovation and efficiency in maritime endeavors.
“The VO:X Barentsz is a testament to our dedication to pushing the boundaries of maritime technology,” remarked Lucienne van Leeuwen-Koper during the christening ceremony. “Its introduction represents a new era of unmanned surveying capabilities, enhancing both productivity and safety in offshore operations.”
Developed in collaboration with DEMCON Unmanned Systems, the VO:X Barentsz represents the culmination of years of research and operational expertise. Building upon the success of previous unmanned vessels, this latest addition boasts enhanced functionalities and state-of-the-art technologies tailored for offshore missions.
“Van Oord's investment in unmanned survey vessels underscores our commitment to delivering unparalleled service to our clients,” stated a spokesperson for the company. “These vessels not only offer cost-effective solutions but also elevate safety standards by eliminating onboard personnel.”
The ceremony also marked a poignant moment in Van Oord's history as Pieter van Oord bid farewell after over 15 years at the helm of the company. In his place, Govert van Oord assumes the role of chief executive, ushering in a new era of leadership for the family-owned business.
“It is with great pride that I take on the responsibility of leading Van Oord into the future,” remarked Govert van Oord. “I am committed to building upon our legacy of excellence and driving innovation across all facets of our operations.”
