Renewable energy company Eneco has announced a strategic collaboration with Goldbeck Solar to erect a 51-megawatt (MW) solar project in Woensdrecht, situated in the heart of the Netherlands.
Named the Kabeljauwbeek ground-mounted solar plant, the project will encompass approximately 88,000 solar modules and is strategically integrated within the layout of an existing wind farm initiative.
“The partnership between Eneco and Goldbeck Solar marks a significant step towards advancing sustainable energy infrastructure in the Netherlands,” stated a spokesperson from Eneco.
Construction of the solar park is currently underway, with completion slated for the culmination of 2024. The plant's location in Nieuwe Dijk, Ossendrecht, positioned directly on the Netherlands-Belgium border, offers logistical advantages, including the utilization of existing grid connections and the avoidance of grid overloads.
Challenges arose during the planning phase due to preexisting supply lines within the construction site. Consequently, a meticulous 3D visualization of the entire site was conducted to overcome these hurdles.
“For example, the solar farm has been designed in such a way so that some areas could be dismantled if necessary in order to accommodate assembly of the wind turbines,” explained a project engineer involved in the endeavor.
Precise 3D planning facilitated the seamless integration of all factors, ensuring a streamlined construction process.
Additionally, the project incorporates environmental considerations, with native plants set to be planted on the north and west sides of the solar park to promote biodiversity and support local ecosystems.
Thorsten Lerch, Head of Profit Center Netherlands at Goldbeck Solar, expressed pride in the collaboration, highlighting the company's extensive experience in solar energy infrastructure development in the Netherlands.
“Goldbeck Solar has already built over 40 solar power plants in the Netherlands and can therefore not only make an important contribution to the energy transition but is also continuously committed to the development of renewable energies and the sustainable expansion of energy infrastructures in Europe,” Lerch stated. “We are therefore particularly proud to realize our sixth solar park with Eneco Solar and to expand our portfolio in the Netherlands together with a strong partner.”
