Renewco Power and Locogen have received planning permission for the Glenniston solar project in Lochgelly, Fife, Scotland. The project, with a capacity of 39MW, represents a significant investment of £50 million.
Incorporating biodiversity enhancements such as hedgerow planting and restoration, as well as the introduction of wildflower meadow areas, the Glenniston solar project emphasizes environmental stewardship. Additionally, the project will contribute to the local community through a £23,400 annual community benefit fund and business rates allocated to the wider Fife community.
Clara Thompson, Senior Developer at Renewco, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This is a huge milestone for the project, and we are delighted Fife Council has recognized the many environmental, social, and economic benefits of solar energy.”
Stuart Hamilton, Head of Developments at Locogen, echoed Thompson's sentiments, stating, “We are delighted to have received planning approval for the Glenniston solar farm.” Hamilton emphasized the importance of solar energy as a cost-effective and rapidly deployable form of renewable energy.
Renewco has rapidly expanded its portfolio since its launch in 2021, boasting a 5GW pipeline from 50 projects spanning solar, wind, battery, and green hydrogen across the UK, Spain, Italy, and the US. With many projects progressing to the ready-to-build stage within the next three years, Renewco is poised to make a substantial contribution to the global green energy transition.
