First Batch of Battery Units Arrive for 850-MW Waratah Super Battery Project in New South Wales

The first shipment of units required for the ambitious 850-MW/1,680-MWh Waratah Super Battery (WSB) project in has arrived at the construction site.

The deliveries, originating from the and destined for the former Lake Munmorah coal-fired power complex where the project is located, mark the commencement of a phased deployment expected to span several months.

According to an announcement by the Energy Corporation of NSW, commonly known as EnergyCo, the project site is already bustling with activity, with over 170 workers currently engaged in construction efforts. Furthermore, many of the project's functional components have already been installed, signaling significant progress.

Owned by -backed Akaysha Energy, the WSB project recently attained a critical milestone with the issuance of a grid-connection permit earlier this month. Construction activities have been underway since May 2023, underscoring the commitment to expedite the project timeline.

The completion timeline for the WSB project is set for August 2025, with efforts focused on ensuring seamless integration into the grid and delivering reliable, sustainable energy solutions to meet the region's growing demand.
