Spanish energy giant Cepsa has inked a landmark agreement with Evos, a prominent player in liquid energy and chemical storage, to facilitate the storage and transport of green methanol and ammonia across strategic hubs in Europe.
The collaboration entails the storage of green methanol produced by Cepsa at Evos' storage facilities in Algeciras and Rotterdam, alongside provisions for storing green ammonia at Evos' Algeciras facilities. This initiative streamlines logistics for transporting green hydrogen products between key ports in Spain and the Netherlands.
Furthermore, Cepsa and Evos will collaborate on exploring logistics solutions for biofuels, renewable fuels, and hydrogen carriers like Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs) at other Evos terminals in Northwest Europe, including Amsterdam.
The agreement, formalized at the Port of Amsterdam in the presence of Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Policy and Deputy Prime Minister Rob Jetten, underscores Cepsa's commitment to building a robust network for the supply of green molecules across Europe.
Cepsa CEO Maarten Wetselaar emphasized the strategic importance of partnerships in expanding the green molecule supply chain, stating, “Through strategic partnerships, Cepsa is building a network of green molecule supply stretching from Spain to northern Europe. This alliance with Evos provides crucial storage infrastructure which will enable the flow of green methanol produced in southern Spain into northern Europe.”
Wetselaar further highlighted the significance of the partnership in supporting Cepsa's ambitious green hydrogen projects, including the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley initiative, aimed at bolstering decarbonization efforts across the continent.
In response, Evos CEO Harry Deans underscored the collaboration's role in accelerating the energy transition, noting, “As Evos extends its reach within the Green Import Corridors of Northwest Europe and propels the growth of our Algeciras terminal in Spain, we are pleased to join forces with Cepsa to provide essential infrastructure to accelerate the energy transition.”
Deans expressed confidence that the collaboration would pave the way for a South-North corridor for green hydrogen products, aligning with Evos' strategy to lead the energy transition alongside its clients in key strategic ports.
