British Gas has announced a strategic collaboration with Forster Group to broaden its solar capabilities in Scotland, responding to the escalating demand for solar panel and battery storage solutions among customers.
Susan Wells, British Gas's low carbon homes director, expressed the company's dedication to providing eco-friendly solutions tailored to individual needs. “We are committed to delivering the right products and solutions to help people cut carbon in their homes and save money on their bills in a way that works for them through British Gas and Hive,” Wells stated.
Forster Group, renowned as one of the largest solar panel installers in Scotland, services approximately one in every five new homes in the region. The partnership not only extends British Gas's reach but also enhances its workforce, with a 55% increase in accredited engineers.
Wells emphasized the strategic significance of the collaboration, noting, “Forster's impressive track record in Scotland will allow us to meet the growing demand for solar and provide customers with expert advice and installations.”
Following the successful launch of its solar initiative in England and Wales last year with Effective Home, British Gas now extends its offerings nationwide, enabling eligible customers in Scotland, England, and Wales to access solar power and battery technology for the first time.
Customers stand to benefit from a complimentary consultation tailored to their energy usage and home layout, providing insights into estimated costs, potential savings, and installation options sans any commitment.
The partnership with Forster Group follows British Gas's recent accolade of a £200 million contract from the Welsh Government's Warm Homes scheme, underscoring its commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) data from last year revealed over 183,000 solar installations across the UK. Furthermore, research from the British Gas Homes Index indicated that 42% of respondents expressed interest in solar panel installation within the next two years.
John Forster, chair and founder of Forster Group, highlighted the pivotal role of solar power and battery technology in the nation's journey towards achieving Net Zero emissions. “We are excited to join forces with British Gas and share their vision for a more sustainable energy future,” Forster affirmed.
