AG, Germany's national railway company, has partnered with Norway's A/S through power purchase agreements (PPAs) to secure a long-term supply of green until 2034.

Under the agreement, Statkraft will provide green electricity sourced from run-of-river stations in Lower Saxony, Germany, starting in early 2027. The partnership aims to deliver over 350 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy to Deutsche Bahn annually, with flexibility in supply terms.

Additionally, Statkraft will facilitate the procurement of approximately 147 GWh of electricity from wind farms across Germany between 2024 and 2026. These wind energy sources, managed by Alterric, will further augment Deutsche Bahn's green energy portfolio.

With ambitions to achieve climate neutrality by 2040 and reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030, Deutsche Bahn views this collaboration as instrumental in advancing its sustainability goals.
