Romande Energie, a Swiss utility company, has finalized an agreement with local retailer Denner AG to supply electricity from a forthcoming agrivoltaic facility in western Switzerland. The announcement, made on Thursday, signifies a significant step towards sustainable energy practices in the region.
The planned solar plant, set to be constructed in the municipality of Conthey, will produce approximately 600 MWh of electricity annually. This output is projected to satisfy the energy requirements of 240 households. Spanning an area of 3,700 square meters, the facility will serve a dual purpose by providing protection to strawberries and raspberries from adverse weather conditions.
Per the terms of the power purchase agreement (PPA), Denner will commence receiving power from the facility by mid-2025. The agreement stipulates that the retailer will procure the entire output of the solar plant to fuel its various sites.
This collaboration represents a significant milestone for Denner as it endeavors to reduce its carbon footprint and accelerate its transition towards renewable energy sources. Furthermore, it underscores the role of electricity consumers in supporting local sustainable initiatives and fostering the advancement of environmentally friendly projects.
