Norway Signs Contract to Develop First Major Offshore Wind Project

Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Aasland, alongside the leadership of Ventyr Nordsjø 2, has officially signed a contract to advance the Sørlige Nordsjø 2 project, marking a significant milestone as ventures into wind development on its continental shelf.

Last month, and the 's joint venture secured Norway's inaugural auction to develop offshore wind in Sørlige Nordsjø 2, paving the way for the country's entry into large-scale offshore wind initiatives.

Minister Aasland expressed optimism about the project's potential, stating, “This marks a significant milestone in Norway's commitment to renewable energy. I firmly believe that Sørlige Nordsjø II can be a catalyst for achieving our ambitions in the offshore wind industry. This project also presents an opportunity for the Norwegian supply industry to play a central role in a new industrial era.”

The consortium brings together Parkwind's extensive expertise in offshore wind development in the European market and ' financial resources, aligning with its sustainability focus and transition to renewable energy.

Additionally, a strategic partnership with NorSea Group, a Norwegian supplier company with vast experience in ports and bases, further enhances the consortium's capabilities.

François van Leeuw, speaking on behalf of Ventyr, expressed excitement about the project's progression, stating, “Ventyr is excited to take the next step in the development of the Sørlige Nordsjø II project. Together, we are fully committed to drive positive change through innovation in renewable energy and bringing this project to fruition while delivering tangible benefits to local communities and to Norway as a whole. We are honoured to be part of Norway's renewable energy future and contribute to its ambition to deliver 30GW of offshore wind power by 2040.”
