KBR announced that its green ammonia technology has been selected for the realization of a 300-MW hydro-powered ammonia and hydrogen project developed by Fortescue Ltd in western Norway.
Under the contract, KBR will provide its K-GreeN technology license, proprietary engineering design, and front-end engineering and design (FEED) support engineering services for the plant, which is expected to produce 675 metric tonnes of green ammonia per day.
Houston-based KBR is a provider of science, technology, and engineering solutions, with a rich history of licensing, engineering, or constructing over 250 grassroot ammonia plants worldwide since 1943.
The Nordic project, known as Holmaneset, will be located west of Svelgen, in the municipality of Bremanger. Construction is slated to commence in 2025, with commissioning targeted for 2027.
Earlier this year, Fortescue enlisted a unit of Italian engineering company Maire Tecnimont SpA to provide FEED services for the project. Approximately a year ago, the Australian metal mining and green energy firm forged a pact with Norwegian state-owned renewable energy generator Statkraft AS to secure clean electricity for the future facility.
