Industrial gases and engineering company Linde Plc revealed plans on Thursday to construct and operate a 5-MW electrolyser in Brazil, aimed at enhancing the production of green hydrogen in the country's southeast region.
Operating through its local subsidiary White Martins, Linde intends to install a second pressurized alkaline electrolyser plant in the state of Sao Paulo, leveraging solar and wind energy sources for power.
Scheduled to commence operations in 2025, the new green hydrogen facility is poised to cater to the needs of various industries, including glass manufacturing. Specifically, Linde has inked a deal with glass manufacturer Cebrace to supply green hydrogen, enabling the decarbonization of its glass melting furnaces in Jacarei, Sao Paulo state. Moreover, Linde sees potential offtakers in other industrial sectors such as metals, food, and chemicals.
Gilney Bastos, President South Latin America at Linde, emphasized the company's commitment to Brazil's energy transition, stating, “Investing in green hydrogen to supply the industrial heart of Sao Paulo reaffirms our commitment to the energy transition in Brazil.”
Notably, White Martins has been actively producing green hydrogen on an industrial scale with international certification at its plant in Brazil's Pernambuco state since 2022.
