Renewables operator Infinigen Renewables, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has announced plans to integrate a 15-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) into its existing 32-MW solar project situated in the municipality of Yabucoa.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Infinigen revealed its collaboration with US-based battery storage solutions provider and integrator FlexGen Systems Inc to bring the project to fruition. FlexGen's HybridOS power management system platform and digital controls will be utilized to meet the stringent grid specifications set by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).
Leslie Hufstetler, CEO of Infinigen Renewables, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This project expands our current fleet in Puerto Rico to over 100 MW. Coupled with our development pipeline of over 1 GW of renewable assets, it represents another step towards the strategic objective of being the leading developer and operator of solar and storage capacity in Puerto Rico.”
The YFN Yabucoa Solar Project, equipped with a power purchase and operating agreement (PPOA) with PREPA since 2022, is slated to achieve commercial operation by September 2025, as per information available on Infinigen's website.
