, a German electrolyser manufacturer, has secured a contract to conduct a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for a 500MW project in Europe. The project, initiated by an undisclosed customer, is slated to be operational by 2028.

The FEED study by Sunfire is expected to provide crucial insights for the customer, enabling them to make a financial investment decision (FID) for the project. The renewable hydrogen produced will support various applications, including refinery operations and production, contributing significantly to industrial sustainability efforts.

In addition to the 500MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser at the project's core, extensive and wind will complement the initiative.

Nils Aldag, CEO of Sunfire, highlighted Europe's leadership in adopting green hydrogen solutions, stating, “We are seeing the first 100MW projects reaching their FIDs. As larger-scale projects like the 500 MW initiative emerge, Sunfire reaffirms its commitment to providing reliable industrial electrolyser technology, capable of facilitating transformative projects.”

Sunfire's comprehensive FEED study will define operational parameters, site requirements, and execution guidelines with integration partners (EPCs) for the 500MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser. The company launched its automated series production of pressurised alkaline electrolysers last year and is expanding its capacity.

With an order backlog of 700MW electrolyser capacity, Sunfire aims to enable the green industrial transformation for a broad range of customers. Aldag emphasized, “With the projects we are bringing to life this year, we are building a strategic and efficient partner network – gaining the experience that will enable us to deliver electrolysis systems scaled up to several hundreds of megawatts.”
