Boom Power has revealed its plans for a new solar farm in Fenwick, Doncaster, as part of its commitment to delivering low-carbon electricity across the UK. The proposed scheme will utilize photovoltaic panels located to the east of Fenwick, near Askern, to generate clean energy.
The Fenwick project is part of Boom Power's extensive portfolio of UK projects, which includes developments in East Yorkshire, Cleve Hill in Kent, and the recently approved Kenley Solar Farm in Hull. Once operational, the Fenwick Solar Farm is expected to provide enough carbon-free electricity to power approximately 75,000 homes.
Local residents and stakeholders will have the opportunity to learn more about the proposals and provide feedback during the consultation period, which is open until 31 May. Boom Power has stated that all comments received will be considered before the submission of a Development Consent Order, anticipated later in 2024.
Mark Hogan, founder and director of Boom Power, expressed gratitude to those who participated in the previous consultation, stating, “The feedback we received, along with further technical work, has helped us to develop our proposals further. Solar energy will play a critical role in this journey, and Fenwick will be at the forefront of that drive.”
Hogan emphasized the company's commitment to working closely with local stakeholders to ensure their input shapes the project. “We take our role as a neighbor to the people of Fenwick seriously and want to ensure this project leaves a positive, long-term local legacy,” he added.
The Fenwick Solar Farm qualifies as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), requiring approval from the Planning Inspectorate and the Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero before construction can commence.
As Boom Power continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio, the Fenwick project represents a significant step towards achieving the UK's climate goals and promoting sustainable energy generation.
