Norwegian energy producer Equinor has received development consent for two extensions to its offshore wind projects in Britain, according to a statement released on Thursday. The extensions will significantly increase Equinor's capacity to power households in the region.
“With these extensions, Equinor's wind farms in Norfolk will power nearly 1.5 million households,” the company stated. However, Equinor clarified that further assessments would be necessary before a final decision is made regarding investment.
The existing Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon offshore wind farms, located on the North Norfolk coast, currently provide power to approximately 710,000 UK homes, Equinor added.
Despite facing challenges such as rising inflation, higher interest rates, and supply chain delays, Equinor has reaffirmed its commitment to developing offshore wind power production. The company remains focused on contributing to the UK's renewable energy goals and addressing the growing demand for clean energy sources.
