has announced a plan to extensively modernise the Malta plant in Uvån, located in the municipality of Hagfors, . The investment, approximately €20m (SEK 250m), aims to improve the plant's lifespan and efficiency, ensuring a continued supply of reliable and sustainable production for the next 50 years.

The Malta hydropower plant, operational since 1914, was the first plant in Uvån and was originally built to secure the electricity supply to the community of Hagfors.

The modernisation efforts by Fortum are expected to increase the plant's annual production by 5GWh to 33GWh per year. This increase in production is equivalent to providing electricity to 1,650 electrically heated homes.

The work on the hydropower plant is scheduled to begin in spring 2024 and is anticipated to be completed by autumn 2026. The investment signifies Fortum's commitment to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of its operations while ensuring a reliable electricity supply to the region for years to come.
