Low Carbon, a UK-based renewable energy developer, has revealed its intentions to bolster its footprint in Germany with an initial solar pipeline exceeding 400MW. The company has also expressed interest in developing a substantial portfolio of renewable assets in the country.
The inaugural project, named Weißholz (Whitewood) solar farm, situated in Brandenburg in Wusterhausen, is slated to commence construction in 2025, boasting a peak capacity of 63MW. Following the approval from the local municipality, the project has achieved a significant milestone in its development, awaiting only the completion of environmental mapping and zoning changes.
In addition to the solar capacity pipeline, Low Carbon is actively exploring opportunities in wind and storage projects as part of its strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Germany.
Managing Director of Investments at Low Carbon, Ian Larive, expressed satisfaction with the company's growth plans in the German renewables market, stating, “We are pleased to announce our growth plans for the German renewables market, which signifies a key step in our journey to accelerate the energy transition.”
Head of Development at Low Carbon's German operations, Murad Can, highlighted Germany's status as the largest renewables market in Europe, underpinned by ambitious national targets for solar and wind deployment by the 2030s. He remarked, “We are making good progress with our flagship project, Weißholz (Whitewood) solar farm, which recently received municipality approval and we look forward to growing the rest of our pipeline in the coming months.”
