COWI has secured a contract for the foundation design of the 1300MW Codling Wind Park, Ireland's largest offshore wind project. The engineering firm will conduct a front end engineering design (FEED) and detailed design of foundations for the project located south-east of Dublin in the Irish Sea.
This contract marks a significant milestone in the development of the Codling Wind Park, which secured its grid connection agreement in 2022 and was successful in Ireland's first Offshore Renewable Energy Support Scheme (ORESS) in 2023.
Under the agreement, COWI will design wind turbine generator foundations, associated components, and offshore substation foundations. Anthony Michelin, EPCI Director for Codling Wind Park, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “We are pleased to be working with COWI on the foundation design. This is another key milestone in our progress towards project delivery.”
Damian McGirr, Senior Market Director at COWI in the UK, highlighted the company's commitment to supporting Ireland in meeting its 2030 renewable energy targets, stating, “We are extremely proud to be part of the green transition and support the Irish market in meeting their 2030 targets through the generation of renewable energy.”
The collaboration between COWI and Codling Wind Park is expected to advance the foundation design to support ongoing Tier 1 tendering and future decision-making processes.
