SSE Renewables Joins Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA).

has announced its membership of the (), a coalition of governments, offshore wind industry representatives, and international organizations that aims to accelerate the deployment of offshore wind power.

The announcement was made at in Copenhagen, Denmark. GOWA was launched last year at COP27 by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the (GWEC), and the Danish government.

GOWA is committed to promoting the construction of at least 380GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, with an increase in installed capacity of at least 70GW per year from 2030. SSE Renewables is building the 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm, set to be the world's largest offshore wind farm when completed in 2026, and the 1.1GW Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm, the world's deepest fixed bottom project.

Through joining GOWA, SSE Renewables intends to share its experience, knowledge and best practices in the delivery of offshore wind energy to help achieve the alliance's goal. The group's member countries include Australia, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Saint Lucia, the UK, and the US, with more countries expected to join.

Director of corporate affairs for SSE Renewables, Alexandra Malone, said, “GOWA is an ideal forum for collaboration to ensure the right permitting, policy, and market frameworks are in place. We are also looking forward to sharing our ideas on how to maximize the wider benefits of offshore wind to nature and biodiversity, and on how to support local communities, thereby ensuring a Fair and Just Transition.”
